Richard Sloan

Professor of Behavioral Medicine at Columbia University Medical Center. An internationally regarded commentator on the subject of prayer and medicine, Dr. Sloan believes that while faith/prayer may bring comfort to many people, there are no scientific methods to accurately measure the value of faith/prayer. Dr. Sloan is the author of the forthcoming book Blind Faith: The Unholy Alliance of Religion and Medicine (2006). His research at Columbia focuses on the mechanics by which psychological risk factors such as hostility, depression, and anxiety contribute to the risk of heart disease.
