Aminah McCloud
Professor of Islamic Studies, DePaul University, Chicago, IL. An expert on Islam and Muslim communities, Dr. McCloud teaches several courses in religion at DePaul: The Islamic Experience, Islam in Global Contexts, Religion and Law, Religion and Politics in the Middle East, Islam in the United States, and the Representation of Muslim Women in Texts; and is working on a proposal to create an Islamic world studies interdisciplinary major for undergraduates at DePaul. She was the key organizer for “Exploring Muslim Cultures,” which included exhibits, lectures, courses, and cultural events at DePaul University from March 31 to July 15, 2000. In 2006, she participated in Harvard University’s Pluralism Project; her project Muslims in Major Midwestern Cities: Detroit, Chicago, St. Louis, and Cedar Rapids included two of her courses: Islam in the United States and The Representation of Muslim Women in Texts. Dr. McCloud is a board member of the American Muslim Council and of the Chicago branch of the Council on American-Islamic Relations.
